Unemployed Due To The Coronavirus? ME TOO & It’s Unbearable!

Unemployed Due To The Coronavirus? ME TOO & It’s Unbearable!

Hi Ladies ๐Ÿ™‚ I hope this reaches all of you in good health โค๏ธ …

Due to the current coronavirus pandemic, unfortunately, I have lost my job of 3 years at the Country Club I worked for. As have thousands of other people have around the country.

No Golfing Sign Due To The Coronavirus Pandemic

I realized quickly that I was not alone. As I scrolled through Facebook posts on the Florida Unemployment page I belonged too. So many people that are unemployed due to the coronavirus and don’t know where to turn. Getting blocked out at every turn.

It took me a couple of weeks freaking out before I got my bearings. I came to realize patience was the key to what was happening to me at the moment. This is something we have no control over.

The only things I can control right now are my actions, responses, and decisions.

So, I decided to start writing again and working on my blog. It’s not like I have much else to do right!! Can’t go anywhere lol… And what this has taught me is I’m done letting someone else be the manager of my income.

Promises That Were Made…

When my job started laying off employees and slowly closing it’s doors there came a promise of “Don’t worry, we’ll take care of you”, from the government.

On top of this, the federal government went ahead and added $600/week for everyone who applied for unemployment until June 31st. Just long enough for us all to try and get back on our feet, pay our bills, and get back to work.

My employer even stated the reason they were letting me go is they knew I could collect unemployment and make the income they were no longer going to be able to pay me.

As soon as this was all over I’d be back at work.

I filed for unemployment originally on March 22nd, and here I and thousands of other unemployed persons sit, waiting, and waiting, and waiting, due to no fault of their own…

I’m going on my 7th week of no income.

My Frustrations With The Systems That Were Supposed To Help Us

Now, unfortunately, I live in the state of Florida…

  • Florida is number 3 in the lowest payout for unemployment wages in the country at a max benefit of only $275.00 a week!
  • They have also been accused of making the whole application process purposefully cumbersome so to make it even harder to apply for benefits and claimants get discouraged from applying.
  • And the software was so old and antiquated it couldn’t handle the influx of applications that were coming in so it crashed and crashed leaving some applications, (like mine), in limbo for weeks.

Among many, many, many other things that I don’t want to bore you with…

UNEMPLOYED DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS

On top of all this, I’m one of the March filers in the state of Florida that got deemed ineligible due to a “glitch” in the system. And I was all excited I got my application in early. Yeah right…

Not to mention, trying to get ahold of someone at the unemployment office is like a full-time job in itself.

I don’t know if you’ve ever worked in a telemarketing job, but if you have I’m sure you’ve heard the term “Dialing for Dollars” thrown around once or twice. But, that’s exactly what I’m doing for hours a day, dialing for dollars, every day for weeks. And it’s exhausting.

There are times where you do get through and sit on hold for 2 hours to get a representative that can’t help you. Apparently, they are in a whole different location than you called.

Here to find out the lines often get intertwined with the ID Verification office. Where they can see your claim but not answer any questions… (How Frustrating!)

They all tell you to call the number to nowhere!!  (The FL unemployment office).

How Has This Affected Me Personally?

We are ALL going through this together… We are all feeling the financial and emotional strain this pandemic has left on us, our friends, and our families.

I will say, however, up to this point I have not been as stressed as I am now. When you’re living with only $200 left in your pocket and no other avenues set up to bring in more, let’s say it feels like my panic button is constantly being pressed by a deranged 5 yr old! ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ˜†

Here are some ways that being unemployed during the pandemic has affected me…

  1. Financially –> Welp, no shocker here folks! However, I will tell you I am blessed with the way my bills and especially my landlord has stepped up to the plate to help me out. I couldn’t have asked for more. (heart)
  2. Mentally & Emotionally –> I will say I’ve had a rough time of it the first 4 weeks I was home. Constantly watching the news, listening to podcasts, or watching Youtube videos trying to figure out what was happening. The confusion and the misinformation were just so overwhelming at times. The stress of dealing with unemployment, the let down I felt every day of dialing for dollars to get nowhere… I was completely and utterly exhausted, depressed, and anxiety-ridden. (Just a typical day in the neighborhood lol)
  3. Health & Wellness –> This one was a surprise for me… During the time I’ve had off, I’ve been able to re-evaluate and look at my diet and workout regime. Neither of them looked good I must say, but I figured there’s always a time to start. But how do you teach a lover of cookies, pies, and cakes to eat better?? Make everything from scratch myself! And I LOVE baking so what could be better lol… I also am using a free app to do Yoga in the mornings. This has helped tremendously along with my daily Centerpointe meditation to stay centered during this pandemic.

Why I Decided To Write This Article

I got bitch-slapped by The Simpson’s Epipha-tree!! ๐Ÿ˜น๐Ÿ˜น

Just in case you missed it lemme lighten your day…

LMMFAO! ๐Ÿคฃ

I started getting back to my roots, I started getting back into my self-love learning and started getting away from the news and all the negative talk that had inundated my mind since all this had started.

I started listening to my Merisa Peers and Lewis Howes podcasts, not to mention many more… I started getting back into learning about website building, SEO, and digital marketing.

And in time, I realized how far off track I had become. I had abandoned the one thing I was doing that could actually supplement my income because it just seemed too hard at the time.

Journal with a red painted heart saying to be you and love yourself

But this is not a reason to quit. If I have learned anything it’s how to quit. Quitting is easy, doesn’t require much effort… But it hasn’t given me anything in return either. And we wonder why we’re still in the same spot in life, having the same struggles year after year.

So while listening to one of Merisa Peer’s videos I decided it’s time. It’s time to put the fear away, start taking care of myself, sticking to a schedule, getting back to me, and maybe even taking a shower every day again lol ๐Ÿคฃ

Most of all is focusing on my biggest goal of all… Making this blog my business, not just a hobby.

My Conclusion

Most of this article I just needed to get out and off my chest to start moving forward in my writing because it was at the forefront of my mind for obvious reasons.

So many people are hurting right now, no one person is not affected. Unemployment due to the coronavirus has come as a huge shock to everyone’s lives not to mention their wallets.

If there was one thing I wish I could go back 6 months and change it would be my attitude towards building my blog, building my online business, and making money online.

If I would’ve just pushed and done the work then, I may not be in the position I am now!

I think the biggest takeaway I would like all of you to get from this article is that you cannot trust the government or anybody else for that matter, to help with your livelihood or income assistance when times are tough.

It’s time we all take our money into our own hands!!

Please, Be Safe In All You Do โค๏ธ
